County Jail
We are adding a 4th location to our family of museums – The Historic Mohave County Jail
With the approval of the Mohave County board of supervisors, the lease is now in place.
We will update this page with fundraising opportunities, project events, interesting history facts, and additional information as this project progresses.
Open from 1910-1968, the jail has immense historic and architectural significance to our community. Inmate graffiti, as well as cell hardware and layout, remain virtually untouched since the doors were closed in 1968. These photos from a recent walkthrough, give you a glimpse of the interior. Look for more photos as we go along.
We need your help!
As part of this project, we are compiling a comprehensive history of the jail and we need your memories! If you are willing to share any information about the jail’s history, especially first-hand accounts of its final years, contact our curator, Leah Stagg at (928) 753-3195 to set up an appointment for an oral history interview.
Prefer to write it down? You can email your information directly to Leah at [email protected], or send them through the mail to Mohave Museum of History & Arts, Attn: Leah Stagg, 400 W. Beale St., Kingman, AZ 86401.
